More than 600 people joined Malmesbury Against Plastic's Plastic Unwrapped Festival in the Town Hall on Saturday.

Festival co-ordination Mandy Dobson said: I think it was a pretty amazing event.

We only set up the group in February - it literally started with a few of us sitting around a table."

People came from as far afield as Worcestershire, London and Norfolk, and the event was part of MAP's project to be recognised as a plastic-free community by Surfers Against Sewage. The festival featured guest speakers, children's events and stalls with information and alternatives to plastic.

“As our first event, which had been a long while in planning, we were anxious to make it a success,” said co-organiser and MAP member Francesca Fearnley. “But we were all so happy to see the Town Hall completely full and so many people coming and going throughout the day."
